Hey, I germinated a couple of archontophoenix alexandrae seeds and I want to make a double king palm instead of a single. how should I do it? just putting two seeds on the same pot? and they will grow or I have to train them some way?

I want it to look something like this in the future.

Yes, plant two ( or 3, if you wanted a triple ) seeds / seedlings a few inches apart in the same pot and let them do their thing..  Petty much how any double / triple / quad, etc. trunked palm, that is naturally single- trunked, is grown.  No training necessary other than keeping both growing.

Okay thanks, I will do that.

That is essentially correct. However, you will get a better appearance if you sow each separately up to a 10" or 14" pot size. Then plant in the same hole with the trunks pointing outward..

Hi Brandon,

Can you recommend the place where you got your seeds? Did most of your seed germinate well?

My double has been a double since very young , like 10” pot size . Large and fruiting now . I love the look of A. Cuninghamiana either single or double. Good choice. It is in a tight space so I can’t photograph the whole thing.

Sorry , I just realized you were asking about Alexandria variety. In that case , it would make more sense to start with two individual palms and put in a lrarge hole , just as @SeanK suggested. The reason , to me , would be to allow the extra swollen base to grow. My mistake . I only have Alexandriana in single , but you can see the size of the trunk you will end up with. IMG_3648.thumb.jpeg.807b84d269149dbb6341d26b82f4c4f8.jpeg

Hey, I got them from rarepalmseeds, but only 2/10 seeds germinated, so I don't really recommend buying A. alexandrae seeds from there, if you have access to fresh seeds it would be better.

the closer they are the more competitive root areas they have. like a venn diagram with more overlap. The more competitive root area the weaker the roots will be in wind.  I spaced my A ALexandre triple 2 feet + apart to help with the wind.    Root development favors potting them separately and then planting with some space between them

Formerly in Gilbert AZ, zone 9a/9b. Now in Palmetto, Florida Zone 9b/10a??
