Just got through putting it in. What do y'all think about placement? I know it might take over my sidewalk and that's fine lol.  Everglades palms are very nostalgic to my childhood. I used to play and catch lizards in them in Englewood, FL as a kid. I'm hoping it grows quick!

Looks great! I think it’s gonna grow very quick! I was actually shocked with how much growth mine has put on in such a short period. I think you’ll be satisfied with its growth rate!

I was gone for almost 3 months, and my palms made it through winter fine. I was outside yesterday looking at everything and decided to update this, another winter successful! Excited for another growing season! 😍

That really does look great. Even the new shoot is looking bigger. Was it protected through the winter?

Thanks! It was protected, I used a trash can and some Christmas lights through December, it caused it to get a leggy leaf, I then bought a pop up greenhouse tent and had it under that which corrected the lack of light but that’s it!

It continued growing through winter through both methods which is cool to have some progress even in the slower months. 😍

Took these yesterday and found it's pushing another sucker, interesting to me how the sucker is higher up on the little trunk it's forming but very cool! :greenthumb:

Another cold tolerant palm that loves full sun and swampy conditions? I should add this to my bucket list along with chamaerops.

I wonder how far up the East coast they can reliably grow and produce a trunk that survives? They can look like ghetto palms too far out of their range. If you’re gonna lose trunks regularly, I would not plant it.

I can’t see these having much of a chance beyond directly on the coast in maybe say North Myrtle Beach. There’s a few clumps on HHI and I’ve seen them in private gardens there as well. They look okay.

I think it will do alright where I have it, even when it does begin to start getting taller, this corner that I have it planted in couldn't be more perfect. I can do a lot for it!

I think it's made some good growth since the last time I posted with the suckers and the main trunk and everything looking very nice, I moved the brick for scale.

My search for how to get rid of Bermuda grass led me to r/nolawns and I've seen everything from solarization to flamethrowers to dump trucks full of gravel to a guy who rented a skid steer and dug up the top 8 inches of his lawn.

every day I think of solarization but I'm also not trying to fry or stop water from getting to the plants I do have around, definitely is an option for big green patches I hate tho, but in the beds I just need lots of mulch and cardboard :indifferent:

Planning to get contractor paper roll or whatever it is, subflooring paper to roll out in large sections but that leaves the mulch to put on top :indifferent:

I'm doing cardboard and soaking it and then going nuts with the cultivator fork until I start to sweat and get dizzy. I'm not mulching over it. I love love love the cultivator fork. It gets the roots, it gets the runners, and I just shake the dirt out and toss the wad of grass into a pile. NGL though I love the idea of the skid steer... Knowing my luck I'd hit the water main or the gas line though.

I was looking at the leaves of my palm and brushed my hand over the leaves and noticed some of the tips were hooks, what are their purpose?

Nice. How old is yours? I got a sprout from @5am and it's sitting in a Wendy's cup right now. I'm hoping it picks up speed and can go out in the spring. I wish palms grew as fast as these bananas do.

I got this from @Jubaea_James760 so I’m not sure how old it is, I think it’s 4 years? Or 5?

It looks good! But it's like everyone says, the best time to plant a palm is 20 years ago.

Well, unless it's Jubaea. Then it's 50 years ago.

This is why I'm rapidly turning into a banana guy.

Until next winter, when I have to either hang lights from the living room ceiling or hack everything down and bury it all in mulch. Then I'll become a palm guy again.
