For some, Florida drought is getting very "extreme"

Featured Replies

We ended up getting 3.38 inches of rain out of that storm here.

The storm dropped over 2.5 inches here.  Good stuff but we need more.  Bring it.

Just over an inch and three-quarters.  Very thankful for liquid sunshine this time of year that doesn't precede a freeze.

Last week's "event" had little or no impact despite some moderate rain totals.

I've never seen such a drought confined to one area like that

Brevard County, Fl

Ended up with almost half an inch of rain here.  Since it has been cool, the soil has been staying moist in between rain events.

We got .48” today and .76” for the week here. Same for me in regards to the cooler temps, everything has stayed moist and the rain barrels are full.

I have little weed seedlings coming up and surviving!  The rain is frequent enough and the clouds persistent enough I'm hoping that helps recovery of the yard.  Still yellow for me in the map but I'm happy with El nino WINTER so far. Summer not so much lol.

Well you have now.  It was very real during the summer.  Now we get a mist here and some spit there but the underlying problem exists.  Spring could be fiery if the situation doesn't improve this winter.

Let's hope it all hits the ground.

You guys are finally getting some rain

Brevard County, Fl

I have gotten more rain this dry season than last summer.  To the point that I found a leak and mold growing near the front door that would usually show itself in the summer time.  Finally a warm afternoon too after nearly an inch of rain this morning.

Looks like Naples then Miami. Then it's done.

I had over 2.5 inches of rain over the last week.  This has got to be impacting the drought deficit.

Less red and moving in the right direction.  Could have really used some of the moisture when it hit 100F+ for a week straight, but better late than never.

Looks like cisterns should be added to home construction.

Doesn't look bad by comparison. With the gulf rains this week, next week's assessment should look different.

Almost 2 and a half inches of rain in two days today, hopefully a decent amount in the dry spots too.  Too chilly to do anything, but the plants will love the spring help before it gets hot and dry again.  Hopefully an early and west weighted rainy season this year.

Even after last weekend's beneficial rain, we have a persistent problem.  It tells you how badly last summer failed expectations.  I predict the colors will again start to return with the end of El Niño and the beginning of the typically dry spring.  But hell, what do I know.

Improvement in Sarasota County where the drought had the worst effects.  The extreme western panhandle is back in the yellow.

Yep, January had average rainfall here but February fell short. Noticed the ground was getting quite dry. Luckily we are entering a wet pattern over the next few weeks.

Palms - 1 Bismarckia nobilis, Butia odorataBxJ, 4 BxSChamaerops humilis, 1 Chamaedorea cataractarum, 1 Chamaedorea elegans, 1 Chamaedorea microspadix1 Chamaedorea radicalis1 Hyophorbe verschaffeltiiLivistona chinensis1 Livistona nitida, 1 Phoenix canariensis2 Phoenix roebelenii, 1 Phoenix sylvestris, Ravenea rivularis1 Rhapis excelsa1 Sabal bermudana, Sabal palmetto, 1 Sabal minor, 2 Syagrus romanzoffiana, Trachycarpus fortunei4 Washingtonia robusta

The wet pattern has continued, looks like this round will hit everyone looking at the radar.  Over night soaking means no dragging hoses tomorrow.

  • Author

I'll be dragging the hose around.  The rain didn't last long here but did leave some interesting Leopard-like patterns on my pollen filled car.

It's looking more bleak as the day approaches. We were swimming in the red the day before yesterday. The rich of course, get richer.....

Thus far, just over 0.75 inches of rain overnight.  Would gladly take more since this time of year often turns the yard into a desert.
