They are cute when young and even have a stilt root when they just have a few leaves. Less than a year old.(Although these are a little beaten up from some wind last month).

I had inadvertently posted a couple of photos in another thread, so I’ll try again.

In a post above, I mentioned a Socratea coming up on it’s own and hoping it would be more stable during future wind events. Time will tell, but this has been a fast growing palm.

A few years back there was a garden tour just north of Hilo where we were treated to the most unreal Socratea forest. The experience was like something out of Avatar with the stilt root cones 6 to 7 feet tall. I have posted a few of these photos before and it’s nice to jog the memory again.

Do these like to stay wet or dry out? I have some seedlings going and most look good but some got burnt.
