RIP HRH Queen Elizabeth 11

It's a sad day indeed.  At 58 years old I've only known Queen Elizabeth as Queen of Australia,  she's been the constant. We've gone through 16 Prime Ministers during her reign but she was the one that never changed.  A very sad day.

It all happened so fast as well. Obviously she was 96, but it really came as a shock to us. At midday yesterday the palace said she was ill, but ‘comfortable’, with the family members flying in to see her. The next official announcement, some 4-5 hours later, was to say that she had died. In truth it appears she may have died yesterday morning and due to protocols needing to be followed it took many hours to be announced. Either way it came as a massive shock, despite her age. After 70+ years, we had become accustomed to her just always being there. Most of the younger generation aren’t that upset over here, myself included, but the older ones are devastated. It’s the end of an era. So it’s ‘God save the king’ now, I guess. 😐

Around a hundred thousand people at the MCG to watch the AFL game and a minute silence was held for the Queen. You could have heard a pin drop, not one idiot making a sound. Very respectful.
