Pictures like these make me wonder about the work I am creating for myself down the road after planting so many big Chrysalidocarpus / Dypsis in my garden!

Whoa look out, the city parks and gardens use cable ties in public areas on large palms to prevent public liability law suits. Any IPS tours booked in for your garden ☝️

The fronds on my Chambeyronia hookeri are usually kind of slow to crack open, but this one was shut tight a day ago and popped right open overnight, a nice surprise!

I was hoping you’d post this Richard. One of my favourite palms on Palmtalk!

I'm hoping that @richnorm will post the seeds to us Tim!

Jokes aside, that palm makes me green with envy, well done Richard.

Maybe only half joking @richnorm ! It really is a beauty and the fact it’s thriving in a coolish climate makes it pretty special.

Good grief Kim, those C. prestonianus are beautiful. Dragging and disposing of those thick massive leaf sheaths are certainly a labor of love. Your garden is looking lovely.

I haven't had this thing 3 weeks yet. It's been indoors. It had like 2 or 3 leaves when I got it and almost zero roots, pretty sure it was a tissue culture plug.

At first one flower I was excited about, now a few days later after spotting the first flower another flower is forming. Never seen two at once. Apparently they are going to be male and female spathes.

Play some Bruno Mars or Barry White to make sure they set seed. Leave some cheap wine out and light candles for them and maybe put some Olive Garden out there to set the mood.

That's more my mom's generation. Weird personal story though, I was engaged years and years ago and I got her pregnant when she bought me Judas Priest tickets for my birthday so there's that. Great show.

This evening , walking out to the mailbox ( fetching my retirement check from my aerospace days) , I was struck by a couple of things in my garden . IMG_1002.thumb.jpeg.2fd24150204378d944d1a226673f45ca.jpeg
‘It took over a week for this Caryota Obtusa frond to fully openIMG_0999.thumb.jpeg.b589d5acc5441e720a3cfeae24e6fb08.jpeg

IMG_1003.thumb.jpeg.f8d02dd0345f44cef6b7f07b501d0466.jpeg

Then , looking up at the Roystonia Oleracae and waiting for that leaf base to fall, I remembered how poor this palm looked a couple of years ago . The fronds were about half the size of this and the trunk is now swelling up.like it should. If you have one of these , water , water , water . A sunny location and bit of organic fertilizer doesn’t hurt either! Well , naysayers , it can grow in Santa Paula California , a bit tougher than given credit for 🙂. Harry

I already posted it too you weeks ago, surely you got the letter from customs saying it was returned to sender, as it had no phytosanitary certificate, silly me forgot to put it in. Such a pity I was looking forward to seeing it planted in your garden, shame on customs!🤣

Oh the master are living in Hawaii, I have to actually grow my palms ie water mulch and generally care for them. Those lucky Hawaii growers just have look at there palms from a rocking chair on the veranda and they grow, I suspect occasionally they may wonder into there garden to speed up the new growth by actually talking to there palms 🤣lucky growers!

The west side of Oʻahu is no palm paradise.  I average using about 68,000 gallons of water a month.  Last few months were very dry and cost about $700 to keep them alive.

Richard, my friend, listen to me. I think you should flood the land more. Make it wetter. With ground-level sprinklers. Bring everything to the habitat of those Hawaiian growers.
