Hi guys,

I'm new to the forum and this will be my first post ever, so greetings to you all!

I've been following many discussions on this forum recently, so I thought I share some palm pics from my country - Japan - here as well. I travel a lot for business and privately, and I took these pics spontaneously in the last year or so.

I always had a fascination for palms, but I'm still an amateur, so please forgive me if I can't identify some of them correctly :D (I will try my best.)

First of all, some Washingtonias in Miyazaki City...

Canary Date Palm in a park in Fukuoka City...

Not sure about this species, but this is in Kobe (near Osaka)...

Christmas Palm (?) on Hahajima, an offshore island which belongs to Tokyo...

And finally, some Cocos nucifera pics. These are also on Hahajima island, along the beach.

Since we can't really exit the country right now due to limited international travel, I think I will be traveling more domestically. If anyone is interested, I will post more Japan palms along the way :)

Ryoさん,

palmtalk ようこそ!

Thank you for posting those images!

By the way - as you may know -Hahajima (of the Ogasawara island group) is home of the beautiful Clinostigma savoryanum palm...

I am down on Miyako island and have already posted several threads about Okinawa`s and Miyako`s palms - if you are interested, please

check them out!

In Tokyo you have got the great Yume-no-shima greenhouse/botanical garden where you can enjoy a lot of the most tropical palms all year

around!

これからよろしくお願いします。

best regards from Okinawa -

Lars

@palmfriend Thanks for the comment!

こちらこそよろしくお願いいたします!

I have read your post on whether Cocos nucifera can grow naturally on Miyako island - highly interesting!! (And I'm glad that the conclusion was "yes")

As for Clinostigma savoryanum, unfortunately I have not seen too many on Hahajima (I remember there was one planted on a playground.)

The people there seemed to prefer planting Cocos nucifera and Mascarena verschaffeltii.

On the other hand, I wonder why Cocos nucifera is not that common in the cityscape of southern Okinawa (i.e. Miyako islands and Yaeyama islands), while they are planted on almost every main street in the Ogasawara islands.

Thanks for your advice on Yume no shima!!

Best regards,

Ryo
