Man, over the years these are going to look great.  It takes patience to grow these.   They are an underutilized genus for sure.   Majestic as the get bigger.

In theory, you should be able to absolutely flood these in hot summer temps.  Many sit is standing water in Cuba during the hot, wet season.

I didn’t grow these particular ones from seed myself . But if I remember right these seed were sprouted in 2016 everyone of them . The gigas though that came from @aztropiche could probably tell you when these were sprouted .

In May of 2014, I took a trip to Cuba, just to view their native palms in habitat. I was fortunate enough to be able to collect and bring back seeds of the following Copernicia species. Baileyana, cowellii, gigas, rigida, and yarey. Here's a pic of some of the sprouts in 1 gallons, taken in August 2014; just 3 months from seed collection. Copernicias are very fast growers when using up their initial seed energy. :)

Some Copernicia species are actually moderately fast growers. From a 2006 IPS sponsored trip to the Dominican Republic,I collected seeds of berteroana from habitat and grew them out. Here is one of those trees, today; just 15 years old. It seeded itself for the first time this summer, and I have started the whole process over again, growing a new berteroana generation from it's seeds. :greenthumb:

Still to slow for me I would be close to 90!!

But for 2 feet of trunk, you would only be low 80's and palm would have 6 foot spread! :P

Bet you have one of these before you go! :lol2:

I’ve had it in the ground for about 3 year ish . @aztropic would Know exact age . He sold it to me in a 15 gallon  i may have pictures of it when I first got it . He grew it from seed collected on a ips trip . . First year it looked like it was going to die damn near defoliated . But I’ve noticed just about every Copernicia that is thriving has done that to me . I believe the ips trip May be documented on here .

Seed was collected in Cuba in May,2014. So that's 10 seasons of desert growing conditions - much slower than if it was grown in Florida. At the current size,it is a beautiful plant, well established, and should not have any issues growing to maturity other than a slow but steady speed.

It Definetly don’t mind 100 + degree full sun and loves to be flooded out during the heat . Big Wolf spiders also love the tight crowns of the copernicias .

I never got to plant any of the gigas I grew in the ground. People kept buying them as they got larger, and I only have 1 runt left in a 5 gallon pot for my own garden; but that's usually how it goes.🤷‍♂️Several plants in my gardens were the last ones left after the rest of a batch already sold.

Update on my Copernicia yarey. I originally collected the seeds for these,on a 2014 trip to Cuba. I was only able to get 3 seeds, and fortunately, all 3 sprouted. Sold off 2 of them at 1 gallon size, then planted this one in my garden. Turning out to be a definite winner! Very blue compared to the Coccothrinax borhidiana planted next to it.:greenthumb:

This borhidiana is actually a purebred from Cuban seed. Only grows at 1/3 the speed of the borhidiana hybrids. Yarey has some catching up to do!

I know it sounds like a long time, but it really does take about 3 years for a Cuban palm to feel 'at home' in the desert;no matter what size it was planted out from. After 3 years in the ground, growth rate speeds up considerably.:greenthumb:
