Will these ficus kill what I plant....

Hello

I’m wondering if I can successfully plant in the area pictured below...these ficus have destroyed other areas of my soil.

All the green is creeping fig but it’s planted on the other side of a hidden wall...

Behind the gate - 8 feet away are 3 x ficus nitida, will these strangle anything I try to plant in this area?

Thanks!

The nitida may not kill stuff  -directly-  but roots will definitely compete ( ..out compete truthfully ) w/ anything near them for water..  On the other hand, Creeping fig, if not consistently trimmed back, could smother / strangle stuff near it, esp. anything small.  Like most Ficus, roots would be another issue w/ that stuff.. Creeping fig is almost as bad as Ivy, imo.

What a bummer - my whole backyard is covered in creeping fig

I had a huge ficus tree 40 years ago that cost me a few hundred to have cut down.  Over here they can get nasty, roots crack cement walks
