With the recent clearing of 10 massive eucalypts and Pinus radiata, I'm in a palm plantin' mood

As I have been groaning about for years is the near impossibility of getting Washingtonia filifera here ???

A now defunct nursery was offering rather large plants at an exorbitant price that had my VISA card trembling.

So, if you have any PURE seeds kicking under your feet and landing in your trash can...........PM me!

They'll have a lovely home in Melbourne.....

Good to hear from you again Adam.  I know what you mean about the availability of W. filifera here, for a palm that I'm sure would grow like a weed here they are impossible to find.  Even W. robustas are overpriced.  If you can't find a filifera why not just plant a Trachycarpus?!

@Tim, thanks for the welcome. What is this "Trachycarpus" of which you speak? Checked all my palm books and there were pages in the T section that were ripped out and stained with blood

Adam, I'm not much of a Washy fan so which one is the one you want, thick trunk or skinny trunk? I have washy things coming up everywhere like in the crownshaft of my Hyophorbe indica. When the leaf falls off a two leaf seedling falls out. I had a large infructense crash into my garden from next door during a strong storm. If it's the one you want I'll grab some seed for you.

Washie seeds are as common as can be here, pure filiferas might be more of a problem to find.

The palms set their seeds in the fall.

Adam, good to hear from you. You used to make us laugh with your posts. I almost fell out of my chair a few times. I hope you post more often. I wish I could help you with W. filifera seed, but they are even rare here on the east coast of the U.S.. You probably have a better climate for them there than we do here. We are very sunny but do get multiple days and weeks with regular afternoon showers, induced by heat. When that happens the seedlings damp off. After we get them well along in growth they do well.
