Nice smallish garden palm, great scale, color, and lightly clumping. These have been in the ground about ten years and produce viable BB size seed off and on. Have a few Basselinia species and they are all handsome little palms.

    Tim, those are gorgeous palms. Wish they grew like that for me! I have a couple ankle biter size ones; one clumping, one not. The non clumper has some wicked-cool coloring on the crownshaft. And a few mealy bugs, now that I’m taking a closer look at it. Thanks for posting !

    Thanks Bret. Yeah, yours has some of that burnt orange color. I remember when mine were still one gal. size, Bill, (BS Man), posted a photo of one of his that was a few years old…..I was sold at that point. Mine are susceptible to mealy bugs as well, a constant battle.

    I made a pretty big effort to do a lot of weeding today and noticed mine has thrown its 2nd inflorescence, no seeds on the first one. 

    Zone 10a at best after 2007 AND 2013, on SW facing hill, 1 1/2 miles from coast in Oceanside, CA. 30-98 degrees, and 45-80deg. about 95% of the time.

    How thick is that trunk? Mine is only about 1"!

    Richard, the thickest one of mine is about 38mm. (1 1/2”)

     Mine Is about half inch diameter probably the environment it's growing in  Anyway it has 15 rings of trunk and I thought it was suckering but I'm not convinced the plant at the base is a sucker what do you think ?  This was planted as a small one gallon many years ago.

    Adam, I don’t think it’s a sucker. A sucker would be much closer to the base of the trunk and the leaflets look dissimilar. Here are a couple of photos of the base of my palm and another of a seedling from the same plant.

    Tim thank you for your response  I felt the petiols  were too light-colored to be a sucker as shown  on your palm being  darker colored. Also the leaflets are not the right texture or form. The only thing seeding in that General vicinity is a chamaedorea  adscendens and  a pinanga  Coronata which doesn't pan out either. So who knows maybe a bird dropped a seed there or I tossed some old potting soil there .anyway your palms look spectacular cheers.
