For sure. Had an ultimate low of 20F, but there were at least 3 nights below 24F. It got a sheet wrapped around the trunk and spear area (somehow I managed to not stab myself) but no heat. Only green left following the freeze was the parts covered by the sheet. It lost a crown of fronds that was about as much as it is holding currently. So long story short, it has managed to fully recover its crown up to this point and from here on it'll be additional growth. I am very pleased with its performance this year!

@JLM Haven’t posted in a while, so thought I’d give you a little yard update after the last few of not so good back-to-back winters. The only thing that’s been protected with just blankets (no heat) is my Pygmy Date. Still growing out half of it’s defoliated fronds but is otherwise doing good. The coastal areas have stayed within 9A throughout all these past few bad freezes, including the snow event, so no real palm losses here fortunately.

Sorry to hear about your Queen! It looked beautiful and had good size to it.

Its been so long! Im glad to see everything is doing well down there. I think about your yard from time to time and have been wondering how things have been, so its great to see an update. I actually regret cutting down my backyard Queen, I don't feel as bad for the other one. The backyard queen was so robust, I should've just left it alone. I replaced it with a mule though, so once that grows in (its establishing well), I'll feel better about the whole thing. I do have two other queens planted, but they're not in important locations for some kind of statement, so if they get taken out by cold it won't be the worst thing ever.

Your palms look very happy! I love that droopy mule too, that thing looks amazing!

Let’s hope for better winters going forward! Statistically, we should have warmer ones lined up after these last few colder ones.

Definitely go with the Mules, they’re great. Yes, the droopy one looks awesome. Sadly, out of the four that I have only one has the droopy characteristics. Seems to be a rare trait.

It's doing pretty well, all things considered. I lost most of the Chambeyronia, Archontophoenix, and Veitchia, but my two large coconuts are still kicking. Overall survival in the yard was around 67% or 2/3rd of the garden. Considering all of the crownshaft palms and other sensitive species, that's not bad. My replanting scheme is going to include a lot of Brahea and Livistona species so I can enjoy myself more when it cools off. The threads below cover the damage in my area pretty well. This way I won't completely hijack @JLM 's thread
