Most cold damage does not suit palms, however, my Robusta survivor (protected) put out three small leaves and I have say it does not look too bad!

We didn’t have any abnormal cold front here but I noticed one of my three robustas has those dwarf fronds coming out.  The palm has no damage though so I don’t know.

I think I know why your protected palms lived and mine didn’t. DO you know the reasoning?

It was one of the coldest winters in years for us too, although obviously nowhere near as bad the freeze that you guys saw in Texas. I had a couple of days in January and February where the temperature did not rise above 32F and fell to around 20-21F overnight. Far colder than the previous two winters.

I left two young Filibusta hybrids outdoors in small pots ALL winter long. During the worst of our freeze(s), the pots and roots were frozen solid for several days at a time. They were like blocks of ice and were basically defoliated from it, but they do appear to be coming back, despite our record cold spring that we are having too. So unbelievable recovery rates for Washingtonia, especially hybrids and Filifera. The Washies in the ground did not defoliate or take much damage.

The growth may be small and distorted, but they have come through an entire winter being left outdoors in pots in a frost hollow at the bottom of my yard. During the worst winter in years. I thought they would be goners, but nope...

Could be many factors. What do you think is the main one?
