Swamp Butia

Found this guy growing on the river bank of the intracoastal waterway.  This area frequently floods and was just under roughly 2 feet of water for over a week.

Very cool to see it out in the "wild" like that. I've thought about throwing a few Trachy and Butia seeds out in the swamps and river bottoms here in MS too.

Last week a friend and I dug up nearly 100 Trachy volunteers from seedling size up to 4 feet tall, all growing under a tall mature Trachy at an abandoned farmhouse.

Coming across naturalized palms is always a nice surprise, especially in places you wouldn't expect them to take root let alone get fairly mature.

That's a nice find with those trachies! I have an intimate relationship with trachies when it comes to relocating them haha

Very cool.  Did you lop off the dead fronds while you were there?
