Butia missionera isn't a recognized name according to Kew but supposedly the same as Butia yatay.

Butia yatay seeds are ovoid (football shaped) rather than spherical.  I'd rather have yatay myself if given a choice - I think it's the best looking Butia.  :)

I use the Butia missionera name because it is supposedly a Butia yatay with round seeds and a thinner trunk.

I'll probably know what these are in about 3 years.

Thank you for posting the pictures, Darold.

Do you or anyone you know have Butia yatay seeds?

Sorry, no.  My visit to Argentina was in 2012.

Thankfully I didn't get such a bumper crop of sticky fruit dropping from the 1st time flowering of my B. yatay! Would have been tedious to gather them all. I noticed the ants and squirrels have already started to feast on them. Not sure who the pollinators were as I only saw one bee visit the inflorescence, along with the ubiquitous ants in the daytime.

Yes, my Butia yatay is growing well and thankfully isn't near the overhead powerlines like my soon-to-be-chainsawed mule palm is. 😟It has a more refined look/habit from my blue B. odorata.  The B. yatay has no flowers or seeds so far this year.
