Heavy frost in Cordoba

Gaston in Argentina

Recommended Posts

Wow! It´s unusualy cold here at this momment, heavy frost, ice on the streets, and palms suffering a lot. Being at 8:10 hs. termometer tell -5,2° C. with clear sky (radiational frost)

Im really worried by my only good sized Parajubaea cocoides and my tall Chambeyronia macrocarpa.-

Caryota himalaya seems with the leaves brown but im sure this will recover for much defoliation that would be.-

The cold will be for the week say the TV forecast. Will see how the palms surrvive to this.-

Good luck with the cold Gaston. Your climate sounds a lot like inland central Florida, at least as far as radiational freezes go. -5.2C(22.6F) is mighty cold and I think it would wipe out a good portion of my garden. What are they forcasting for you for the next few nights?

Gaston,

Good luck.  I've found that covering plants during radiational frosts helps, even if the frost blanket or cloth touches the fronds.  A few fronds will get burned but the growing points will be protected.  The trick I was told with cacti and stem succulents is to cover the tips with styrofoam (or equivalent) cups.
