I hope to get massive response to this thread since this palm along with washy's are considered as beuties that adore hollywood,beverly hills(heaven on earth)&las vegas...

so guys please flood in with beautiful pictures of CIDP.and it need not be from your residence or your gardens.(all pictures of this canarian beauty is welcome.

I fell in love with it 8 to 10 years back when i used to watch bold & beautiful,bay-watch & silk stockins_soaps.no doubt movies like beverly hills cop gave all the prominance to these trees.

till 2 years back i did not know the name of this palm,for years together i thought it was a date palm grown using fertilizers.

only after my encounter with seeds sites online i came to know its name.

i expect more pic from our esteemed forum members.

i have also borrowsed pic in webshots photo gallery's of zac & walt_very nice pics.

the Phoenix canariensis in the following picture is the oldest one in southern Switzerland, it was planted 120 years ago. In the background you can see a Jubaea chilensis, and the palm on the right is a Phoenix sylvestris ... from India.

iam in a fix unable to say which is beautiful ?

is it beautiful france or our loved palm_CIDP.

And in post no 19 (First Picture) we can see that

the CIDP has undergone trimming popularly

known as pineapple effect trimming this is very

popular in los angles & las vegas.

when i spoke of this form of trimming our european

members of this forum were not aware of this type

of trimming.your picture explains my arugment.

You have probably seen both of these, but here they are again:

I am pretty sure this one is less than 100 years old.  It is only about 60 feet tall, but it is the oldest I know of.  The house was built in 1887.

This is where the name "pineapple palm" comes from.  Sorry for the dreary backdrop; picture was taken in January.

Gileno- I work through out Del Mar and La Jolla a lot and I can't think of anywhere in Del Mar that would be.... Now I could think of a few places in La Jolla....  

I think your other shot was about a bloock away from one of my favorite Butia's.....Its trunk is about 3' across, then picture ALL the boots perfectly lined up for about 10' of trunk......now give all the boots or the trunk a very slight slow twist....thats what the trunk looks like....almost like a sculpture.

This is a pic of my CIDP the morning it was about to be dug up and go away...  But it now resides happily in the middle of a horse training track near Rancho Santa Fe....

I am now embarrassed to say that I lived here for about 6 years before I sold the tree and I watered it......twice!    (yes in 6 years)

How many pictures! What a palm! I am obviously in love with this species and I am in the right place to keep my love pushing.

I have a request for the people in Southern France. As you probably know, the very first Phoenix canariensis established outdoors out of the Canaries were planted in Hyeres in the 1860's... in 1863 if I am not wrong. Some 10 years later, the "new palm" from the Canary Islands was a hit shocking the nursery trade and the landscapes of Southern France... it was much faster than Jubaea, hardier than P.dactylifera, greener than anything else. It became the tool to tropicalise the landscapes of the riviera while the newborne tourist industry was flourishing.

Back to my point... Are those first P.canariensis still alive in Hyeres? How tall are they? and of course... can we see them in pictures?
