Do newly opened Areca catechu/Betel nut palm leaves stay whitish for a while/ how long?  Deficiency?  Just growing too fast for the chlorophyll to "catch up"?  Thanks for any information.

Cool weather causes A. catechu to be off-color.

Thanks for the reply to my question.  How cold/cool is too cold?  I'm also trying to upload a picture of the plants in question but havn't been able to do it yet.

Sorry, just really new to this forum.

Kathy,

Welcome to the IPS Forum! And I see in your Profile, you've listed both SoCal and HI as locations. Where in HI are you?

Healthy Areca catechu seedlings should have dark green leaves. Here are two volunteer seedlings under one of our mature trees. Don't know anything about their cold tolerance, except that you may run into problems when the temp drops below the mid 30s.

Aloha!
