Cleaning up my date palm

I've had my date palm in the ground for around 8 months. It seems to be growing well but I'd like to clean it up a little. I have some suckers coming out, a lot of hairs around the base and the remnants of some date growing stalks. It all looks a little messy. What would you recommend for cleaning it up?

  • Can I remove the hairs that you see in the image?
  • Can I just cut out the date growing stalks?
  • What would you use for this?
  • Any other recommendations?

Thanks as always.

  • Can I remove the hairs that you see in the image? I would let the hair on the trunk personally.
  • Can I just cut out the date growing stalks? Yes
  • What would you use for this?  Sterilized pruning tools
  • Any other recommendations?  When it gets older, learn how to "diamond cut" it. ;) If you have multiple palms, sterilize tools between each plant.
