yeah,scott,that bird was creeping me out!they're cute when they're little but when they're large you can see how scary they really look!

Bigger than you huh? He looks purdy scary! Cool pix of the Metroxylon seeds. I was only able to find one of those on the ground at Ho'omaluhia last year. The tree was overflowing with the armadillo shaped seed. It has since turned to a much lighter shade of green and is as hard as a rock!

Hey Paul, that bird is a cassowary, they grow to three meters and are highly volatile, when I was a kid in north Queensland one bit my best mates pecker off

that palm is livistona rotundifolia.fairly common in bali.

I have to confess. I just jumped to this post. I'll need to set aside a weekend to get caught up on this thread. I do believe that was a veitchia and not a ptychosperma a few posts back.

There is an entire story behind that cassowary bird incident that has to be told. It beats Jeff Foxworthy's "A beaver tore off my nipple" story by a long shot.

A few mates that have traveled in the States have returned home with amazing stories of how aggressive the American beaver can be. Apparently the wild beaver is now difficult to find and has been largely replaced by the domesticated shaved beaver. Is this really true?

They have two of those big birds at the Wild Animal Park.  They are located in the Australian Forrest.  One kick from their hefty legs will more than knock off your sack and jewels but will quickly sign you off earth in a mere second.
