Well the palm treated with the Bayer product is already showing signs of yellowing. The roundup palm so far looks normal.

Interesting, the Bayer's ingredient is Triclopyr.  That's mixed with 2,4-D in a few herbicides, maybe it's the "quick kill" ingredient.  Glyphosate takes about 7-10 days to see death on weeds and grasses, so I'd expect it to take a while to do any damage to a big palm.

Agreed, I’ve heard a lot of homeowners complain that roundup doesn’t work very well, such and such another product is awesome those things were fried the next day etc. Roundup will give you a thorough kill, it is not a desiccant (dries up leaves anywhere it touches) it get absorbed into the whole plant and down into the roots (a systemic herbicide), this process takes time but it kills thoroughly across a broad spectrum. .

Yeah I'm pretty sure the generic roundup will work too, I just like to experiment.

So, lets say for a juvenile tree (1.5" trunk),  what are the steps? Wireless drill with a 1/4" bit, drill 1/2", then spray round up?

5 year high 42.2C/108F (07/06/2018)--5 year low 4.6C/40.3F (1/19/2023)--Lowest recent/current winter: 4.6C/40.3F (1/19/2023)

What I would do is cut the trunk all the way off, then immediately apply roundup in 100% concentration on the still moist trunk either by administering by a small dropper or perhaps by dabbing it with a cotton ball or something.  Just use whatever the highest concentrate you can get. I’ve had success with this method.

one shot with the 1" went right in, then I just poured some roundup concentrate in the hole. I used about 4 or 5 oz, a smaller palm maybe 2 oz.

As of today both palms are in rapid decline, the roundup palm seems more so then the other but clearly either will work. The generic roundup is far cheaper so that will be my chemical of choice in the future. It's nice to know I have a way to tame the jungle but I have to admit, as much as I know I need to thin the herd figuring out which to kill of seems impossible. I really enjoy them all. The 2 I picked on where smaller ones, have not went after one of the monsters yet.

I hear ya. Cull the herd.

Which is the generic roundup?

Any updates of the two palms on death row? Curious if the trunk got punky where the chemicals were applied. Leaves drop? Crown drop?

They are both pretty crispy looking, all the fronds are dead on both but none have dropped and the trunk looks fine, no weeping or anything noticeable. I have about 5 more that will be on death row soon, possibly more.

I'll take mine extra crispy, first is the generic roundup, the second and third the bayer. A little tug on the bayer tree and down she goes.

Quicker than I thought it'd come down! I'd be cautious where you put the remains because of chemical leeching.
