newtopalmsMD
I have read not to fertilize palms in zone 7 after july 4. (Needles, sabals and trachy's) I have some palm fertilizer with a three month release time. Can I use this in June? or should I find something with a shorter release time. (I used up my 6 week release in early May) I assume that fertilizer timing is not an issue for my butia and Mediterranean fan which are in 15 gallon pots and will spend particularly cold days in a 40-ish degree garage? Thanks
Nj Palms
It would be fine to fertilize them. After August would be more concerning as growth probably stops around mid November. The potted palms are also fine to fertilize.

Thanks I would worry a ton about it. I have broken that rule a number of times, and I don't think I've seen any adverse effects. I try to stop fertilizing in August personally. mdsonofthesouth
August is the last month to fertilize. But needles will eek out growth for a while after. cm05
I think now through July would be the perfect time to apply your 3 month fertilizer. I would never stop fertilizing in early July, summer is the time to maximize growth, cold weather is still a good 5-6 months away at that point.
