Palm Seed "Spill" Stories

Featured Replies

Does anyone here have a palm seed spill story? I was carrying a large quantity of Sabal palmetto seeds a few years ago and spilled them on my driveway. I thought I picked up most, but I guess I did not. The next Spring they popped up all over the lawn and unfortunately had to be cut like the lawn aswell... :(

Not really a spill, but I put a ton of phoenix roebelenii seeds by the burning pile thinking the heat would stop them from germinating.  I went out a few days ago to round up a few things around the yard and found a few had sprouted.

Whenever I plant seeds I always end up losing a few, so when summer comes my entire garden is full of miscellaneous Sabal and Washingtonia seeds.

I also purposely throw seeds around my yard as well. Just a few days ago I tossed a bunch of dates from the grocery store, hoping that I may get some dactylifera seedlings. I also just got some free Sereona repens fruit via a Facebook palm group but I couldn’t handle the smell so I just threw the fruit under my butia, maybe they will also come up when it warms up.
