Well... My Trachy spear pulled from the worst cold snap we have had here, the funny thing is my Butias, Mediterranean Fan Palm, and of course my Needle Palm are all thriving right now. I put most protection on the trachy and it is having the problem. The inner spear pulled but some fronds on the outside are green. Will it survive or is it likely dead?

Do you insulate the trunk and crown area?

It's not uncommon for Trachy's and Butias to spear pull in the spring time. At least, that's true for me. I had a trachy with some spear "rot" but it grew it out. My butias seemingly always have that funky spear pull in the cool wet springs. How is your trachy doing now since it's been a month?

I haven't lost a palm yet here. I don't want to loose that streak.

Spear pull is but a minor set back, but I can understand the anxiety it can cause. It's happened once and it'll probably happen again, but I'm glad it worked out.

Yeah, I heard it was common but it sure made me worry I lost it!
