Is anyone growing Sabal palmetto in Europe? If so, I would love to see some pictures!

Nice. What size pot is the first one in? It looks like a 7 gallon pot? 

I'm growing this palmetto sp. Tifton in a shady location on my property (south of France, Toulouse), handles strong winds and frost with no problem. This picture was taken a few weeks ago after an ultimate low of 19°f in january (30 days below freezing point this year), and several days with gusts up to 50 kts.

Mine has been in the ground about 3 years, growing slowly but steadily, in a fairly wet corner of the garden (likes water I guess)  

Not in Europe, but in Japan (which is something like an European Asia or so):

I saw what I think was sabals in Switzerland but i cant remember. I just remember seeing palm trees and being surprised.

There is a trunking one in Paris that has been there for at least 10 years:

Mild winters seem to be more important than summer heat.

Hello! There are 2  exemplars in Lisbon (PT) University botanic garden. I don’t know their age .

It's full of them in the beach promenade of Benidorm (Spain) I will make some photos for you next time I will go there or I will seek for some pics for you.

I see U.S.A. flags (goes will with the Sabal palmetto!). Nice palmettos you guys got! Do they ever leaves the old fronds on so they have that "lollipop" look? 

Here is a nice Florida Sabal palmetto (one that was growing wild), any like these?

Update on my Sabal Palmetto a year and a half on... growing well I think, seems to be finally speeding up after a few years in the ground...

Haven't seen any quite like these in Spain, yet, but here's hoping... ;)

Here are Sabal palmetto in Hyderabad, India

Just came back from beautiful Malta and here are a couple of sabal palmetto that I took photos. It was raining that day so the photos are not the best. The 3rd photo also looks like a sabal but I'm not sure of the variety.

Sorry for the late answer. 

At least most public ones don't since they trim the palms, as well as they trim even Archontophoenixes and Howeas, which look amazing with all of their fronds.

But I remember seeing a few planted near a highway which were like the one from your pic, untrimmed. If I see them again I will try to make a couple of pics!

Interesting thread on our overlooked and taken for granted Sabal! The Promenade shot is incredible. I think the Sabal has potential for expansion internationally and it seems to look more interesting in other locations.

There are few here in Split Croatia but dont know is it palmeto(pics)...i have in garden causiarum, bermudana, blackburniana,uresana,mauriti, yapa,minor, palmeto and mexicana and they all nice going for few years now...

Toby at RPS told me that thousands of my Sabal Lisa seeds were bought by nurseries in Europe (Spain in particular), so those should hopefully start popping up in the landscape over there in the next decade or so!

I hope that Sabal palmetto will become popular in Spain. The mass plantings of Washingtonias and Phoenixes get boring after a while.
