There are three different species of Pandanus flourishing in the garden.

All three were planted very small , two were five gallon plants with the one pictured being planted as a 4' plant.

I stuffed the little Pandanus in a small crack between two large boulders and it just took off.

Be careful what you wish for!

Is this a female encephalartos?  I wasn't aware females would put out more than one cone at a time.  I've only seen one very large cone on a couple of occasions here in Florida.  This one is gorgeous!

The plant you are questioning is Encephalartos ferox.

Yes, this is a female and several of the female cycads in my collection exhibit multiple cones.

I have had as many as seven cones on a single caudex.

The plant you are inquiring about is Rhopalostylis baueri.

It is in a genus containing two species from The Norfolk and Kermadec islands in the south Pacific.

One of my favorites for sure!

Jeffry, thanks so much for your response.  Your place is absolutely stunning and so well-done!  So much attention to detail and everything is so perfectly tended to.  Seeing it was such an inspiration to me and I'm sure many others!  Thanks for letting Pando share it with us.

I had never seen a female encephalartos with more than one cone.  Two years ago mine brought one beautiful huge red cone.  This year I was rather disappointed when I noticed one smaller, off-center cone.  After my post on your thread, I went to look again, and wouldn't you know, it is bringing three cones as well!  The one I had seen is further along than the other two, and was the only visible one at the time.  I am so excited!  I just had to share that with you.

I can't believe I didn't read this post tell now. All I have to say is WOW. 

Jeff, your garden has to be one of the most beautiful gardens I have ever seen. What an amazing selection of palms, cycads, tropicals, succulents, etc. If I was to choose a dream garden, this would be the one. Very well done. I wish I could have been there in person.
