I find 'The Encyclopedia of Cultivated Palms" by Riffle, Craft and Zona an excellent book for palm information and identification.

It's got soft leaves with black fruit so it's gonna be in the proctorii, alta, barbadensis complex. It's hard to get anyone to go any further on an id than that--unless they are trying to sell it to you...
