Newbie Requesting Palm Tree ID

Hello All!

 

Long time lurker; first time posting.  I was hoping one of you highly knowledgeable palm fanatics could ID a palm tree for me.  I took this picture back in 2007 at the botanical gardens in Darwin, Northern Territory, Australia during a port visit (I am a retired Navy Senior Chief).  I thought it was both unusual and impressive looking; however, I failed to get its species name before I left.   There was a whole grove of them planted.

 

Any help you could provide in identifying it would be greatly appreciated.

Just a guess, but looks like a Borassus.

Hmm, the habit of this Borassus flabellifer looks very similar:

Yeah, you guys may be on to something....that Palmpedia entry pic looks almost identical. I have been trying to find references to the Borassus genus at the Darwin Botanical Gardens online; no luck thus far.

Hah...I just went on the Botanical Gardens website and they list one of the "functional areas" for event venues as the "Borassus Lawn" (https://nt.gov.au/leisure/parks-reserves/george-brown-darwin-botanic-gardens/list-of-function-areas).  I think Pal's Borassus flabellifer may be a really good candidate!
