So I pulled a clump of Needle Palm seeds off of a large Needle Palm and I currently have them in a plastic bag (I left the bag open to prevent mold growth) and I have a few questions about them. One, how long until these seeds go bad? I have had them off the seed spike for 2 days now, and I am planning on planting some in the ground and some in pots over the weekend. And two, on a scale from 1 - 10 how easy (in your opinion) are these seeds to germinate?

They aren't hard, they just take forever unless you remove all of the seed coat.

These seeds are good for at least a year, longer if you soak them once every few months.

Yes, you need to crack & remove the outer shell.

I did this using a bench vice to control the pressure when cracking the seed shell. I put the seed in the vice end to end, although I'm not 100% sure it matters. I was able to remove between 60% to 85% of the shell. Some of the shell would not loosen without damaging the seed. I haven't check for a while but they're 8 months in the germination baggie.

Cheers, Barrie.
