Geesh, they look great there in the desert since they are native to swamps.  Incredibly adaptable species.  Yes, I know they get irrigation, but still....

Land O Lakes FL, a suburb on the North Side of Tampa, FL

Summers are great, 90f/32c in the day & 70f/21c at night with plentiful rain & sun

Winters are subtropical with occasional frosts and freezes. Tropical cyclones happen.

We have a few Royal palms in the warm microclimates but Coconuts freeze.

I am a Kayaker, Hiker, Bicyclist, and amateur Photographer that loves the outdoors.

Since this area doesn't really have water restictions like the rest of the state, most people have grass lawns. And grass lawns need daily irrigation here to stay green....so the end result is plenty of water for the Royal Palms, as well as the heat they love.

No not really. Due to the low elevation there is a high groundwater table.

Nice!

Maybe soon you'll find some desert coconut palms too! I bet they're out there.

There ia a coconut palm growing in Mexicali....about 16 miles south. It's  few blocks from the border. It's about 20 feet tall...on the south side of a building....full urban heat island and warm micro climate. It looks a little sad though. I will try to take a pic and post tomorrow.
