My seeds are still sleeping too, I understand they can take a long time to germinate so I still have hopes since I tested my seeds to see if they still sink when placed in water and they do.

Hawaii Island (Big Island), leeward coast, 19 degrees N. latitude, south Kona mauka at approx. 380m (1,250 ft.) and about 1.6 km (1-mile) upslope from ocean.

 

No record of a hurricane passing over this island (yet!).  

Summer maximum rainfall - variable averaging 900-1150mm (35-45") - Perfect drainage on black volcanic rocky soil.

No breaking news yet Pal. 2nd leaf on my seedling is very very slow and maybe 2 mm growth since my last update.

Yes, Kai, since November the growth (of all my palms) is sloooowing down. For comparison, the 2nd leaf of N°1604 is now growing only 2 mm in 3 days (22 mm since 2016-10-29). It’s really a snail race … :asleep:

UIPI URRA !!!!!!:yay::yay::drool:.I 'm very happy today . Following a short history of my seedlings (or: A report from the snail race): :interesting:

When I gained a germination rate of 50% from 2016-04-20 to 2016-05-08 I decided one month after the first germination to experiment a little bit with my 4 (+1 from @Bananengeknl ) remaining seeds and exposed them to to direct sun, what resulted in the 6th germination on 2016-05-31, but the seedling died six days later. :(

In July I made a similar experiment on 2016-07-20. The result was that the seed from Bananengeknl (N°1607) and the 7th seed of the batch (N°1608) germinated the next day on 2016-07-21 :greenthumb:; a couple of days later the remaining two seeds showed rotten pores of the endocarp. :sick: (I guess that the direct sun might have been too hot. :indifferent:) The seedling N°1607 stopped growing ca 10 days after germination :crying:, the seedling N°1608 did not develop a deep radicle, so that I put it in a small nano-greenhouse. ^_^

The output of my 10 seed batch from 2016-03-29 is at present six healthy seedlings, i.e. 6/10. :)

Oh, that growth rate is even for a snail a bit too sloooow … :huh: The 3rd leaf of snail N°1601 has grown 1mm/day; cf. pic below. There is (or only: was?) something wrong with the roots. Do you water the seedling regularly? Don’t let the soil dry out. The mix dries very quickly.

Oh, that is a really sad news! :crying:

Is that baby definitely dead? Or is there still any life in the meristem? If so, I would repot it in a much smaller pot and use a very fast draining soil mix.

That looks pretty bad indeed...

In a final effort to save it maybe water it with a kelp based root comforting solution and put it somewhere around room temperature with low light conditions and who knows... 

I personally woud not repot it at this stage that woud probably take away its final spark (if it's still in there that is...)

Oh no! :sick: The roots are rotten and the meristem is dead! :violin::crying:

It is a typical Lytocaryum disease after soggy soil; happened to me many times in the past during winter with unsuited soil mixes.
