So, who's switched to Windows 10?

Candid observations and thoughts appreciated.

Took a bit of getting use to, but now I love it.   If you are using 8, it will be improvement.   If you are using 7 or below, it will be a bit of a shock.   Once you learn the new way to do things, all will be fine.   Applications don't change a bit.

It's fine, I run it at work and at home. Having an SSD (Solid State Drive) really makes a huge difference, bootup is nearly instantaneous and W10 takes a full advantage of it. 8GB of RAM is highly recommended.

If you have a slow machine to begin with, or a machine that already has performance problems, I wouldn't do an in-place upgrade. Get your data off and do a clean installation.

Seems to work ok....if you can figure out where the power button to turn it off is.

I upgraded to 10 from 8 as fast as I could and have no regrets. It might not be perfect, but it is a big step up from 8 in my opinion.

I recall that when MS came out with Windows 8, it also required you to update/upgrade (for a price) all of your applications, including Word, Word Perfect, etc. Many, including me and the office I work in, refused to upgrade for that reason. Many computer sellers touted their wares as not having Windows 8.

I don't know about Word Perfect, but older versions of MS Word work on Windows 8 and 10.

Device drivers are a different story, as Windows 8 uses slightly different driver architecture, requiring you to use specific drivers for that OS.

While some older applications are not compatible with newer operating systems, the common stuff (Word, Excel, etc.) should run just fine.

If you're running Windows 8 there is no reason not to upgrade to Windows 10. Windows 7 users can wait as that OS is pretty solid, but eventually MS will stop supporting that some years from now.

Thankfully, I have a couple installs of W7. The machines are Laptops with 2 slots of DDR3 running 32 bits. I have some old software that won't install on a 64b platform. MS Office is 32 bit so it works just fine. With a single, dual-core CPU the machines are fast.

W10 has a lot of NSA and MS spyware that necessitates multiple dual-core processors.

So, let me tell you about my journey with Windows 10. It all started when I decided to take the plunge and switch over from my trusty old OS.
