Okay, I was out in the rain, they let me out for the day, and I wandered up the Other Hills of La Habra.

La Habra, is a valley, and I live on the northern edge, right next to LA County, and La Habra Heights, one of the Boredom Capitals of California (stadium, The Boredome).

There's the southern edge, near Fullerton, another set of hills, with a water tower, and supposedly a good place to raise tropical palms, but maybe not.

I rode my Bike of Cardio up the hills and found this Hyophorbe langencaulis in the garden of an evident enthusiast for tropical plants, and it was gorgeous! In July. I suspect a Home Depot special, receipt long tossed.

So here it was, and, well, not so good.

So, others of ya, lay on your tales of horra for L. langies in California, in this "mild" winter.

    I dunno if I would blame it on the palm...maybe the grower should share in the blame.  Noticed that Bizzie in the pot looks pretty beat up.  Bizzies should be darn near spotless here in SoCal.  

    Love these puppies!  I managed to pick up a 6 foot Bottle Palm for a song from HD about 2 weeks ago.  It's in a 15 gal pot and had 1.5 spears and one really beat up leaf.  I've got it inside for the remainder of the winter, but drag it out on warm sunny days.  One of the spears is cracking now. I will plant it out in March or April in the warmest spot in the yard.  Excited to see how it does.

    I'm with Josh fresh off the truck. Who grows a bizzie in a pot? Surprised the ravenala's look as good as they do.

    Here's an update.

    Still alive, barely. (Left the people some PSSC literature . . . . )

    They have the same truck as in the first picture! Maybe they're playing tricks on me. ("Here he comes with his camera . . . ")

    Happy to see traveler's palms looking so healthier than bottle palm. I have planted recently one of former in my garden, and since spindle and bottle palms are in my climate a big no,  this scene boosts a little more my optimism.

    Those are a bit tempermental in climates like ours, alas. I've gotten them to grow, and they trunk, then boom, they suddenly die, dunno why.

    Ravenalas. H. verschaffeltii are pretty good here. Langencaulis, not so good. But people keep trying.
