Conversation in the ER after taking some of those pics....

The Doctor asks "what were you doing on the roof"

"I was getting up close pics of my Chambeys for the forum members to enjoy" replied DoomsDave.

To which the Doctor adds "I'm going to transfer you to the nuthouse once your leg/arm/back/neck heals"

Lol... great pics, thanks for sharing. Be careful up there!

I am waiting for my baby-Chambey to open a new spear in my livingroom. When I bought it last year from Spain, I could still see that the then recently opened leaf had been red! So, fingers crossed!

Here's another shot, taken from safely on the ground, with the leaf on the far right above, backlit by the sun in a beam through the rainstorm that lashed us part of the day.

Kind of wandered to the other side to check on something I've forgotten about and saw it.

I still think it's funny how excited us  Palm nuts get when we get to see a new leaf.

You should've seen me last month my spot in my flamethrower with a new leaf on the big Island . It was like I won the lottery.LOL

I spotted that leaf over 100 feet away.  It was calling to me come look see how red I am.

How many leaves do your flamethrowers throw a year?

Great thread Dave!  One of my Hookeri's just opened a new leaf. Still a young palm but growing happily.

They look great DD, bravo Sir.

Howdy 🤠

I bought a 10' watermelon a couple yrs back. Biggest downer. I wait 6 months for a new frond that is so rust colored it looks dead. I actually look forward to it greening up. This was the day it opened. Might be a culling soon. Space is at a premium.

It is a pity that you were perhaps expecting it to open like a hookeri. But no they don't they do have instead a wonderfully rare and beautiful trunk and crownshaft that pale washed out hookeris can never approach. May I suggest that you double plant a little hookeri right up against it, in it's protection and it won't take up any more room and hopefully it may stay small for a bit longer than normal thus keeping the new little leaves where you can see them, and try to enjoy the watermelon for what it does so well. :D

Cheers Steve

It is not dead, it is just senescence.

My little watermelon is not so little anymore. My hookeris are definitely more red, but this is still a welcome sight.
