Agree and this leaf is a lot darker than usual. Plus this is one of my fav threads :)

I planted it about 15 years ago. At the time it had just developed its first ring of trunk from memory. If you look closely, it has just put out its first aborted inflorescence now. Everything is slow in Melbourne but this one is in fairly poor soil with no supplemental irrigation anymore over the last 6-8 years, so it really moves very slowly these days. Not such a problem when the nice features stay at eye level for a long time.

Tim, looking at your post, I feel like I'm living in a monochrome palm world at home!  Beautiful specimens.  I assume the first palm with the beautiful tiger striping on the crownshaft is one of the New Caledonia genera, but am not able to nail it down.  Our color palette isn't as wide because our species palette isn't as wide here, so I'll use that as my excuse for not being able to id it.

Hey Tracy, I will admit the color pallet here is probably more varied and vibrant, but looking at photos of your garden and others in SoCal,

(and everywhere else), I’ve always thought the color variety was quite impressive. Companion non-palm planting adds so much as well.

Here are the ID’s for the photos:

Basselinia eriostachys, Pinanga speciosa, Clinostigma samoense, Pinanga maculata, and Bentinckia condapanna.

So I was in Santa Barbara for my anniversary last week and had to stop and see Perry Glenn perito . 
he had this decipiens with some insane color !! Had to have it . It is pretty stretched but absolutely stunning red edges

Hi,

yesterday's morning I routinely opened one of our curtains to check a C. macrocarpa which had

just pushed a new leaf...

...when a very characteristic trill of a bird close by woke me up instantly. 

I got to mention that I am not into birds or a bird watcher but this very rare one, you can

often hear but barely see, caught my attention long ago. The moment you are trying to get closer

after sighting it, is usually the moment it takes off - sometimes I think it reads your mind...

Whatever, after glancing at the Chamberyona's leaf I scanned the spot immediately and...

...a rudder kingfishers bird - and so close! I couldn't believe it! 

Closing the curtain slowly to avoid getting any attention I called my youngest one to take a look at it,

too - opening the curtain again just to be sure...

Holy...!!!! What is going here....???!!!

Almost scared to disappoint my daughter until she came over I closed the curtain again carefully.

When she approached I told her to be quiet to avoid scaring the birds off, then I opened the curtain

again...

...which literally made me speechless. There was number three sitting on the Cocos nucifera on the 

left. I took the moment in and felt very happy to witness this probably almost unbelievable situation -

my daughter saw all three of them, too - before they finally took off, leaving me behind still unsure 

if this was all true...

However, after that I went out again -

...to take this photo for this' threads main theme...  

I am sorry for this side story but I was too overwhelmed -

Interesting color difference, both are Brahea armata. What interests me, is that the greener one receives more sun than the silver one.

Thank you for the compliments. It is nearing 9’ tall. Tbh I have no idea what variety it is. I threw mixed seeds down to help shade some things behind it, seasonally.. a couple grew. Seems to like the spot.

Always a show when the old leaf base comes off the Dypsis prestoniana.  I had to hose off all the worm castings as worms were feeding on the retained base of an old flower stalk that was black and falling apart under the leaf base.  I spread the worm castings around in the yard along with the worms in the hopes they will find new homes and fertilize my garden.
