Ok, great shot Matty, but man, it's weird. Jeff's right leg is missing, and something's hanging out of your pants...

Not that I really want to know. Move along. <cough> Great looking palms, just great. Those things sure are happy over there.

Excellent links and the only troubling thing is I think Shon spotted some random ones of the special ones which he and I managed to locate/ acquire.. mine did not make it.. :(

The interesting thing is I believe the special ones I was referring to here, may be the same as what FallBrook Jason posted recently here?

@Fallbrook Jason @MattyB @Dypsisdean @LJG what do you think?

Thought of this at Gregs yesterday and thought I should update. Looks like ONE frond opens a year coastally! However they are over 10' long before opening, so it is pushing a fair amount of "palm meat" as it were !These pics taken last week.

Well you have seen how good they can look, now see how bad they can be. We got this from Colin Wilson about 5 years ago and have had a terrible time trying to keep it alive. It was marked 'Dypsis hovitrendrina' . We have tried different parts of the garden, more light, then less, more water then less, pot, repot changing tack every time it was nearly dead.

I would have given up but Lizzy refuses to let it die, because Colin said that it was rare. It is now in a pot again. And we still have no idea what we should be doing for it or what it would prefer. The one leaf always dies off from the tips as the next leaf appears :wacko:

I see it in your photo, but have to wonder if it is the power of suggestion?  Will be interesting to see if yours starts picking up speed as it gets bigger.  Seems like many of the large Dypsis really pick up steam once they get to a critical size.

But I have noticed my extra heat this summer has helped! This thing is holding 4 and a half fronds, all 9-10' long! The base is definitely getting darker, not lighter.

So the one in the photo in this string didn't make it.  Don't recall details on what happened to it.  This is a different palm that I got from Josh. It was labeled as Dypsis Jurassic Park White Stem.  2016 planted.  Today's photos follow.

Has it turned out to be plumose (C mijoroanus as suggested above) or regularly arranged? Until I re-read this thread I thought ‘highland redneck/mealy bug’ and mijoroanus were distinct (and the true nauseosus completely different).

Hard to really notice any plumose action happening.  I have to say I think C. mijoroanus is different.

John I think you’ll find the true nauseosus is described as having little/no petiole. I doubt this palm is described (highland mealybug/redneck).

Tim, based on your comment about the little or no petiole then mine isn't Chrysalidocarpus nauseosus either.  Unless my plant later gets the bigger white spotting as opposed to the finer spots, than I'm not even sure I have the same palm as John or highland mealybug/redneck.  Whatever it is, it will be big.  The new leaf with my garage which is nearby giving a better perspective of the overall height of the new leaf.

Bill, i have posted the below palm on FB before.  I just took a pic tonight after i removed a leaf base.  Is this the same palm as yours? I'm still confused as to if it's true C. nauseosus. Or C. Highland Redneck.  It is about 12-13ft tall now. It was collected in habitat in 2007. Sold to me as Dypsis lastelliana.
