Very nice palms Richie, similar to normanbya... Great choice! They look really good as a little group planting if you can find a few more of varying sizes?

I think you guys are growing what has been confused and mislabeled as schumanii, but is really drymophloeus... I have many drymophloeus. I have one schumanii--will see about getting a photo for you guys soon...

Ok, this is what I think you guys are growing...

And this is the real schumanii. It's not as vigorous as drymophloeus and a whole lot rarer!

Andrew, mine has grown very slow and is a sibling of the Brassiophoenix in Cairns BG that has been seeding for years, the central leaflet is getting longer as my pic shows.

Edit. Only just read about Brassiophoenix drymophloides and the Cairns Brassiophoenix has Lime green seeds not yellow as does Bd

Pete, are you familiar with Zona's article about how the two names have been mixed for I don't know how long, but when he did some deeper research, he noticed the palms being called schumanii were actually the other species? If you are, then you have the real deal schumanii-I certainly don't doubt your keen eye when it comes to palms! You are certainly one of the heavy hitters on Palmtalk, and thus the world. Maybe I brought it up in the wrong way? I am interested to hear your thoughts now, and the color on the trunk is actually a fuzz, to those who don't have this palm and can't 'touch and feel' as Jeff Marcus would say...

Oh and my above posts were a typo-I meant the other species-not the other stilt root genus-sorry for that confusion!

Drymophloeoides-not drymophloeus. Boy that's a mouthful!

Andrew, I will look it up and read about it, I think your right though as I just went and took an underneath pic with a flash and no grey shows as it does on shumanii so I looks like it may well be Brassiophoenix drymophloides :)

At least its still a Brassiophoenix, thanks for the heads up Andrew.

You bet-I know you are like me in that you want to know what you have! As with my pics, you can see they are both very similar, and you had me second guessing myself! :)

"Very" similar thats for sure, oh well its still a great looking Palm, esp the black fuzzy mottled stem/ C/shaft.

An re being a sibling of the grey/green seeding schumanii in Cairns , tons of seed came in from PNG at the same time after Michael Ferrero travelled there, and Michael said that Schumanii was his 'favourite" Palm, that was many yrs ago so maybe his thoughts have changed ? :)

The Brassiophoenix came from a sibling from Flecker in Cairns and he assures me it's Schumanii . Great score today, it was worth the scrub itch.

This is off the same plant .

Again, if the nursery is aware of Dr. Zona's article, then there is a very good possibility it's the real schumanii.

As a collector, to have both is a must; closing out a genus in your collection is a good feeling. As a nursery man, I would only sell drymophloiedes(I know I spelled that wrong) as it is a bit faster and also less fastidious.
