As I was travailing along the 15 Fwy between Gopher canyon road going south and ready to exit Deer springs road I noticed a dusting of snow just off the freeway on the hill tops to my left side (east). When I exited the freeway on Deer Springs road I saw a couple cars covered in snow coming down the road and realized how close to the snowline I was. Well heck, I decided to take a quick detour and drove up only 1.5 miles from the 15 freeway and entered into a winter wonderland.

this is the first pic of the snow dusted hill top about 1 mile before I was to exit Deer Springs road driving south bound on the 15Fwy.

I was in shock when I saw a couple cars coming down the road covered in about 2 inches of snow. At this point I decided to take a mini detour from my morning errands to go and investigate. Notice the snow on the right hill top in this pic. Maybe 1000 F above sea level

made my way up the hill 1.5 miles and hit snow and Ice. I'm not sure how high the elevation is but I think its only about 1,300 F at this point

I'm at the intersection just a few feet away from the last picture at the intersection of Mountain Meadow Rd. and something? looks like a picture from the mid west..lol

to really put thin gs in perspective, this pic was taken of crazy John's palm nursery (or what will be left of?)

on my way down the hill I had to get out to make sure the snow was real..lol

this was the last shot before I got too cold and drove 1.5 miles down the hill to get back on the freeway.

The total amount of time I was there was about 15 minutes and the temp gauge in my truck read 34 F. I cant imaging what the local residents thought when they awoke to this winter scene? I hope you all enjoyed this mini adventure I stumbled onto this morning.

It looks like the last time Vista and Escondido had snow was December 13, 1967. Even Carlsbad got 2 inches that day...

I Just Talked to David Minks (a former PSSC president) 10 minutes ago and he is at 1,500 F and got 1 inch of snow. the pictures I took above are only a 3 minute drive from his house. He Currently has snow on all his palms and cycads as of 12:30 pm. He told me that he has lived there since 1988 with only an occasional hail storm. He didn't even get this cold in 2007. WOW!!!!!!

Thanks crazy to think Carlsbad had 2 inches of snow. WOW!! I wonder what the low temps were in 1967?
