34f at my place in MoooooDesto. All the bananas and ficus Dam's are still green.

I noticed that at Axels place it hit 34f as well.

His weather station is placed about middle of his hill. which means the bottom was sub feezing.

Wonder if he had any damage?

I have a bad feeling about tonight.

not a cloud in the sky and no wind at all.

it is going to be real cold at 5:45 am Sat.

I already got leaf burn on my ficus trioderopsis from last night

Lots of clouds are breaking through the high pressure up here and the temperature has been a stable 46F for a couple of hours. I hope what I see on the moving satellite maps holds up. The forecast is now stating above 40F tonight. :)

Last night (Friday night/Saturday morning) looked to be our coldest night, just at freezing or below for an hour maybe near dawn. I'm having to rely on nearby stations for guestimates since Santa overlooked a weather station for us this year. Bad Santa. Tuesday night and Wednesday night coming up are projected to be nearly that cold but a degree or two warmer so not overly concerned. Definitely a lot warmer in mid-late December compared to last year (down to 23 to freezing for overnight temps for a few hours for more than a week as I recall).

Nothing in our yard palm-wise to be concerned about but my orange birds, Sun Patiens, Canna intrigue and just in the last few days our kangaroo paws ('tango') are in bloom now and I just hate to lose the flowers if I can help it, so will be ready with frost cloth for some of our stuff. Scrambled to buy it at the last minute last year and get it out.

The cold evening temps here definitely signal winter has arrived.

Low of 35 two nights ago, and low of 37 last night with no frost. The air has been very dry with a light wind so no frost. This is my second winter at my new house and it is interesting learning the climate. Last winter was very mild with only one light frost.

post-10438-0-83049200-1419905027_thumb.jI got 46 this morning at 6am in my backyard. I'm making sure the ground is moist, the pool is at 57. Wednesday night is the biggest threat so far. I know . . . I really should have nothing to worry about. But I'm still momma. They're young . .and I want to make sure my palms are comfortable this winter. It's their first winter in the ground.

I've slept much easier since I decided the temp is only as cold as it gets when I'm awake... since I usually get up 730-8, its an easier sleep. :)

It was 45F when we headed out for coffee this a.m. around 9:30. No frost on the car overnight which was nice to see. Wind has been blowing since last night as projected, and man does it feel cold. DH put up some rebar/pvc hoops and the wind isn't making it easy to add the frost cloth protection. Have to wonder if we'll find it blown off overnight. That happened last year to some of our plants and not a pretty sight afterwards.

What do you guys do to keep frost cloth on securely beyonds clamps and some rocks on the bottom? Wondering if there's a better way.

Just looked and our low is suppose to be 31F.

Wind is really whipping our mature mule fronds around. DH just said that he found one of our lowest (oldest) fronds broken off from the wind. We've walked in the backyard off and on today and it must have just happened. This is the first time the wind has claimed a frond from us, still green too. He did say the soil is still moist from our prior drenching here so at least we don't need to water the palms before the freeze.

Debbie, Just curious why you would be installing frost cloth for a windy night since frost doesn't form on anything but in still or nearly still air?
