Gday gday!

I don't have any updated pics on my pc atm but you've given me a reason to get out there and take a few new ones. Probably in the same spots as before for 'before and after' shots. The Areca macrocalyx cruised through a winter with the glad-wrap hothouse but last winter time was at a premium and it wasn't wrapped. It was time to put up or shut it. It shut it's mouth real quick. Fortunately for me, i was given a small Dypsis bejouf, which has filled the spot nicely.

The lemuropheonix is a different story. He's still cruising along at about 6 leaves. Still under shadecloth but im ready to remove that in the near future.

The pics won't be in the next few days due to time but hopefully in a week or two. I'm kinda excited to update you guys aswell.

Just saw this post for the first time.  Love all the rockwork with the palms, so much work moving them.  Also, saw the yellow VW bus, we had a yellow one too, a '68. Sold it, and, have a '90 Vanagon, and a 2003 EuroVan.  Looking forward to your new pics of palms.  What are your average seasonal temps and rainfall there?  Cecile

Hi cecil, absolute low is about 2/3c for a night or two in winter then usually about 7-10 mins in winter I'd say. Summer highs can be low 40c's. Rainfall i couldn't say I'm afraid. It's a good overall climate for most palms except the super tropical stuff (like macrocalyx or C. rendas). Where you really want to be is a little closer to the water. Like the Redlands. Red soil, higher winter lows, cool sea breeze to take the edge off in summer, and you pick up those coastal showers.

this internet thingy takes me on great mini-vacations almost every day.  I think my favorites are those to Australia.  Great job, NApalm (nice screen name too...reminds me of a powerful movie).  I wish I had the raw materials, (rocks,, soil, topography) to create such a nice garden.  And the diversity of palm species you have is quite impressive.  The before and after shots are inspiring.  I never have enough befor to make nice comparisons so kudos for that too.

Land O Lakes FL, a suburb on the North Side of Tampa, FL

Summers are great, 90f/32c in the day & 70f/21c at night with plentiful rain & sun

Winters are subtropical with occasional frosts and freezes. Tropical cyclones happen.

We have a few Royal palms in the warm microclimates but Coconuts freeze.

I am a Kayaker, Hiker, Bicyclist, and amateur Photographer that loves the outdoors.
