Light Snow on South Padre?

Featured Replies

I just looked at my weather.com app. It says it is 36 degrees and light snow falling on South Padre Island right now. WHAT THE HECK? An island in the ocean (gulf of Mexico), at 26 degrees N latitude, during the day, and it's snowing. This is not completely unprecedented but this definitely sheds some light on just how crazy this winter has been, and it's been cold for weeks on end, not just an arctic blast that is in and out in a couple days. The absolutes haven't been too bad there so I hope the tropical stuff survives.

Corpus Christi, TX, near salt water, zone 9b/10a! Except when it isn't and everything gets nuked.

Average highs this winter have been about average...but lows are 5 degrees below average. Didn't drop below 40 last two winters, but it has been in the 30s 3 or 4 times now...absolute low was 32 (short duration). Tender stuff will probably be fine, but coconuts don't like these long cool stretches :(

  • 2 weeks later...

This winter was the craziest I have ever seen in my 44 years. In Ls Feria and Harlingen in the Rio Grande Valley about a half hour north of Brownsville, there was a significant ice storm with about a half an inch of ice accumulation, but the next day, the temperature in the afternoon warmed up to about 70F+.. Here in Corpus Christi, there was ice again on the west side of town for the 4fth time in 4 and a half weeks, but the very same day, the temp. warmed up to about 70F that afternoon, and the next day we set a new record high at the airport of 91F, breaking the old record of 87F or 88F!!! I have studies weather and climate as a hobby since I was about 12 years old, and I have never ever seen anything like this winter in my life or even heard of such a winter from the old timers here in Texas.
