butia x parajubaea cocoides: At what temperature does it show leaf damage?

Any updates?  .... preferably with photos?  I would love to see what Dick Douglas' palm (pictured above with Dick) looks like today.    Any other BUTIA x PARAJUBAEA photos would be nice to see if you have any to post.  Thanks!

My palms never showed any damage. Coldest recorded temperature was close to -5⁰C in this time. ( they grow like this in the Southern hemisphere 😀)

Carambeí, 2nd tableland of the State Paraná , south Brazil.

I am seeking for cold hardy palms!

Mine croaked for no apparent reason 🤷‍♂️

Do they grow this vigorously in the northern hemisphere? I only have room for a few “big Palms” and I think those are the most stunning of all the Butia xHybrids!

Also, Alberto how old are they now?9A4DFBFB-1D17-4ADA-AD77-51379B80CAD2.jpeg

This would imply the undersides of the leaves are much more frost-hardy than what we 'northies' consider the tops. This also explains why California is seemingly perpetually in a drought and your palms look so good. All of our water percolates down to you and you are enjoying all of that moisture...

I just wish I could figure out why your toilets flush backwards. One of the mysteries of the universe, I suppose. We may never know...

Oakley, California

55 Miles E-NE of San Francisco, CA

Solid zone 9, I can expect at least one night in the mid to low twenties every year.

Hot, dry summers. Cold, wet winters.
