Hi all,

I have been around foxtail palms for a while now and I know the some of the problems they face. The normal problems around this part of the world is root rot (Phytophlerra fungis) and borer insects that do damage to the trunk and the general functions of the palm.

I have had a sick foxtail palm for quite a while now and I wasn't to worried about it until today...... I know this palm is gone and so be it.... foxtails are a dime a dozen around here.

This is what the palm looks like today, it looked great about 12 months ago!!

I don't care about a foxtail dying but I found this today while watering and I don't like the look of it!!! This pic is of the trunk of the foxtail and obviously has something to do with the palms demise.

One of my problems is this foxtail is about 1m away from a very healthy wodyetia speciemen and I don't wish for this to happen twice, I have used fungicide already (about 6 months ago) but this still appears....

My biggest problem is that I have not noticed this before and I have another 100 odd sp. that I don't want infected!! I assume this problem is associated with wodyetia but can anyone confirm this for me??

what is this????

Your right Pete, why risk it!! It will be cut and burnt ASAP!!

Keen to hear if anyone has seen this before??

you wouldn't know if it is contagious until you see signs of spread/infection.

Slash and burn or trust in karma because what will be is.

Maybe treat the root zone if you want to go hard.

If the rest are of the babies are healthy then that is your and their best defense.

Beer wouldn't hurt either(personally speaking).

Hope you are planning the replacement

Funny Steve, thanks.

All other specimens are fine and my beer supply is always kept "healthy"? Root zone has been treated for the last 6 months and still this?? As I have said earlier I knew the palm was gone but seeing this today has got me a little scared!!
