Joe,

Can I ask where the Cheesmanii seeds or plants came from? Are you sure they are the real deal? If so I will take one. Are you headed out this way anytime soon?

Hello JP.

Just want to let you know the A.maxima and Syagrus picrophylla i purchased from you are growing robustly.

Great specimens especially that lent coconut in full sun yet still a strap leaf. One spear after another for both.

BTW with all this talk about cocoid palms, how fast is that PJ sunkha compared to a PJ tor tor?

Seems like the tor tor slows down a bit in the summer but a profuse spear producer in winter and spring.

Whats the sunkha like? I heard its a good or a close stand in double for a coconut.

Ritchy

JP

By any chance, do you have any Pritchardias?

Very tempting when MattyB showed off his collection esp

the becarrio and munroi and remota.

Great genus as well.

Aaron

Aaron,

The seeds came from RPS, so I can't say for sure but chances are very good they are the real deal, They certainly look to be the real deal.

Actually I do have a doctors appointment out your way tomorrow. Could come by after that. Call me (760)300-7339

Ritchy

Ritchy,

Always glad to hear things are growing well!

You know, I'm not really sure which one grows faster, my guess would be torallyi. I do know they grow pretty fast compared to most palms. My sunkha in the ground was in a 9" liner in 2006 and is now huge! 15' tall and 14" fat at the base.

Being that the sunkha grows at the lowest elevation, compared to the others, it handles the heat better, thus growing better in the late summer heat we can have.

Yes it is relatively close looking to a coconut but it's trunk is fatter, grows straight up and probably has a larger crown w/ less drooping fronds.

It really is a great grower for us.

I do have Pritchardias:

P. remota 5g $25

P. hillebrandii 15g $50; 20g $100+ (some real big ones!!)

P. hillebrandii dwf. blue 5g $30; 15g $65

P. maideniana 15g $75 (huge!), 20g $125

Think I have others but I'm drawing a blank at the moment.......

Thanks Troy! I need to post a few more pics of the more rare stuff but I have been crazy busy..

Yep, those are from Pogo-Bobs old house. Not sure when I picked them but it was 5+ years or so ago.

Have a bunch of these in 15g already and one or two are ready for a 20g!!

I also have large 1g plants of R."oceana" from Darold Petty's palm in the SF area. There is a noticeable difference between the two.

I should post a thread on these two palms to see what others say.

Best

I have baueris and cheesemani I believe. Which 1 is more sun tolerant?

Joe that would be a really interesting topic when you get a chance !

I am not sure Ritchy. My guess would be their sun tolerance would be the same but I could be wrong. Cheesemanii is considered a variant of baueri.

Troy,

Some have said it is Chatham island. I have no idea. What is the difference between Chatham island and Sapida? mine has white flowers if that makes a difference.

Thanks so much for the plants. Pics to come later. My only problem was the lack of space in my car. The plants are bigger in person. I guess the camera only adds ten pounds to people. Thanks again.

Do you still have the sunkha for sale, I'll take that off your hands!

Thanks Adam but there is still much growing needed. And, maybe another visit down to see Joe and Discovery Island Palms before he comes to his senses and raises his prices.

Real nice garden Leo!

Looking real good.

Way to go planting those out quickly. I could learn a lesson from you on that.

Never seem to get a good number of palms planted out at one time. Usually just 1 or 2.

Difficult to dig holes in my sloped yard and then there is the gopher and rabbit protection and hooking up sprinklers to them, but enough excuses from me!
