Sabal palmetto in Hakgala

Featured Replies

In Hakgala botanic garden, old Sabals close to a wonderful Cupressus macrocarpa (Hello California!)

Thanks to the british who created this botanic garden in the highest part of Ceylon, we can enjoy a wide collection of plants, including a Quercus robur, the english oak!

See the strange trunk and roots !?!

Jungle Paradise in Sri Lanka

What a beautiful scene. Monterey cypress is so majestic, and in cultivation it rarely resembles the plant in its native habitat, which is gnome-like, bonsai-like, against the chronic salty winds.

Someday I'd like to visit this mountain idyll. It may signal my lack of imagination, but places in the tropics where plants typical of my chilly city grow well are charming to me, like Koke`e in Hawai`i and, now it seems, Hakgala. Not that I'd miss out on the tropical exuberance at lower elevations!

The palms are Washingtonia robusta, not Sabal palmetto.

Jason,

this is the problem of the wrong label, sorry I was not able to see the mistake on the label!
But anyway, Hakgala is a lovely place.
