Kim
Thaks for the great photos! I like this concept of a color-themed palm garden. Very nice to see the variety of palms that fall into the silver category all together. Milos Srejic
Really, really great photos! I think copernicias are the most beautiful there...

stygiana
Encore une fois, merci Philippe! While many silver palms are typical of Mediterranean and arid climates, they are not that common in equatorial regions such as Singapore. Although they are becoming obviously more and more popular. Gooooooooood Kim, it's great to see all those together indeed. Would Mauritiella be silver enough for such a planting? (I fell in love with that one ) Really, really great photos! I think copernicias are the most beautiful there... Yes, Werewolf! I had exactly the same reaction when I saw this post! Cedric
I'm always meaning to visit the gardens by the bay, it's starting to look really nice thanks. Is there a decent palm nursery in Singapore with advanced seedling size palms that you know. I've never had much luck on the palm front, orchids are easier to get. Someone told me all the palms are grown in Malaysia across the Straights? Cerdic Non omnis moriar (Horace)
doranakandawatta
Cedric, It seems you're right: all the palms are grown in Malaysia across the Straights. I found only garden centers selling european flowers which seems to be more sophisticated and interesting for Singaporeans. Few palms in the garden center, no small seedlings. But collect seeds in the SBG and Gardens By the Bay and sow them! Philippe Jungle Paradise in Sri Lanka
doranakandawatta
Sebastian, Mauritiella in the Singapore Botanic Garden is a beautiful plant, I got few seeds which are sprouting now, but it seems that Mauritiella requires a wet soil, different of Copernicia, which indeed are wonderful palms! Best regards Philippe Philippe Jungle Paradise in Sri Lanka

Every first Sunday or second Sunday I forget which of the month the SBT has a plant sale, I've only been once and this was by complete accident so I wasn't prepared entirely. No time, at the worst time. It's a bit of a bring and buy as private collectors and enthusiasts come and sell stuff as well as the gardens. One guy was a Licuala fan and had L. Cordata L orbicularis and many I've never heard or seen in my life but dying to get Semangoh, this has become my absolute favorite, it's such a neat palm encroyable. My luck I had half an hour to leave for the airport. Also it's a bit tricky planning to be there on the second Sunday of the month, but from what I saw if you ever are it's very very well worth it, many fern and orchid specialist too.
