Hey all,

I have found very little info on this palm, other than some pictures in an older IPS journal & on Palmpedia. Even the new Encylopedia of cultivated palms has eliminated it. So has it been rolled into another species or what?

Legit, you just never see it. I don't know if it has ever been offered in cultivation. I would love to see Basselinia iterata come around too.

I havent heard of its name change...but..I wouldnt be surprised if its been been moved to Basselinia Humboldtiana...do you have Hodels Beautiful Book "The Palms Of New Caledonia"?? If not buy it..its "very informative' with "Stunning pics".. Basselinia porphyrea pics and info are in the book and it does mention how 'very very similar" it is to Humboldtiana ( only difference was the leaf sheath)...Pete :)

Doubt they are combined. Flowers are different. Porphyrea has that beautiful bright red flower.

I second PONC. It is my favorite book behind POM.

Haha. So true. I use to go to bed "obsessing" about woman. Now I go to bed dreaming of NewCals. Not sure why but they have a greater hold on me than even Dypsis

Nope. It's all good. She thinks about Mark Walhberg before falling asleep.
