It's nice to hear from all you guys and girls and your words of encouragement. I'm lucky that I've had such a great support group. My roommate and my next door neighbor have taken me under their wing and I couldn't have gotten along without them. My neighbor, Lorraine, drives me to and from the oncology treatment center, which seems to be all two often. I don't trust myself to drive. I try to limit my exposure to other people because my immune system is shot. I tell my friends who may have a cold to not come visit.

My room mate does all the grocery shopping, cooks my meals and pitches in where he can. On occasions I've been so weak Iv'e needed his assistance to get to my bedroom. I have no appetite and I have to force myself to eat. It's hard for me to concentrate, even reading is a chore so I spend most of my days watching TV.

Thanks again for your words of your words of encouragement and support.

Hi Dick!

Congrats on the plaque that the society just gave you. YOU DO have an incredible garden. And like Rick stated earlier, you have many, many palms that are just equally as beautiful as any of the tropical and subtropical palms that are found all over the world. Your passion really shines and it shows. I'm glad to hear your up and around and I remember still to this day how surprise I was when you showed up at the house for my 50th surprised birthday party. Do you remember? Take care my friend.......

FYI...Update.....Richard's garden has been cleaned up, weeded, fertilized, mulched, and trimmed up. All is good. The house is being renovated as we speak, and the home and garden are going to be kept "in the family," at least for the time being.

Rest assured that the garden is going to be kept intact and kept as it was.....a remarkable collection of cold hardy palms suitable to the Bay Area of California.

This is great news! I love that garden, it is a testament to the lifelong love Dick had for cold hardy palms. Its a lifetime of work that gives a vision for future cold hardy palm gardeners. I have some hybrid seedlings from that garden, probably too many for my yard. I am not inclined to sell those that don't get planted out, but I might give some away at some point to a gardener with an obvious passion for cold hardy hybrid palms. I'm hoping I can corrupt my son in law, we shall see...

Formerly in Gilbert AZ, zone 9a/9b. Now in Palmetto, Florida Zone 9b/10a??
