Kim,

It's always a pleasure looking at the nice pictures you seem to capture so well. And your palm names(and other plant groups) are running off the tongue quite smoothly these days. Of course it's easier when your taking pictures in two beautiful gardens like you did. Thanks once again for sorting all your pic's out and taking the time to post. Nice gardens!

Kim, great photos of two fantastic gardens. Their creators should be very proud.

Truely superior Capturing of two great gardens..

Dean, Its amazing how much has changed since my last time there.... hope for my place yet... :D

Zone 10a at best after 2007 AND 2013, on SW facing hill, 1 1/2 miles from coast in Oceanside, CA. 30-98 degrees, and 45-80deg. about 95% of the time.

I do some experiments and learning in my garden with palms so you don't have to experience the pain! Look at my old threads to find various observations and tips!

Thanks for the comments, guys. Jason, Chris, and BS Man, you were there, so you know how impossible it is to really capture the feel of walking through these two fine gardens. Mr. Searle, I hope to get a crack at photographing your garden one day, although you've done a fine job of capturing it on digital yourself. :) Jeff in CR and Daryl, as you know, every garden has its own personality, and both of these gardens are extroverts. :)

The only chink in the armor is the potential for the leaning disease, which IMO is minor. And I have my own theories of cause and corrective action that seem to work for me.

So DeanO, regarding Howea and the leaning crown; what's your theories and corrective action strategies?

Also, when is Dypsisdorian going to be seen here on the board?

Too lengthy and difficult to put into written words. It would require one of your show and tell documentaries. I'll share it with you sometime and you can do the presentation.

And re: DypsisDorian - maybe sooner than you think. I just told him I would talk to him about some possibilities for new plantings, and told him they might require a post in the Plants Wanted section.

I would certainly like to hear about your theories on Leaning Crown that seem to work for you. Anyone with an active mind ends up with a few weird theories. But there seems to be so little knowledge from the scientific community on this.

I'll try and start a topic on the subject when I have a little more spare time.

To moose: verb (moomacr.gifs) The act of bumping an old thread.

Examples:

I just moosed that old thread about that amazing garden with a pool...

John Doe likes to moose threads about dypsis palms...

I am very greatful that Dave moosed this thread. OK, no, this isn't an example anymore. I mean it, this garden is spectacular. No need to go on vacation, that pool is so incredibly inviting.

After reviewing this thread, I see neither of these gardens conforms to the "proper placement of palms in a landscape" relative to the front door of the house. I guess I have really bad taste, because these seem like top notch gardens to me. B)
