My best guesstimate is that I have 140 species represented among the 350 palms planted in the garden. My nursery area houses approximately 200 potted palms and I keep adding more when I come across species that I like that are currently not in the collection. I may have to clear out some of my banana patches to make room for more palms to go in the ground.

After counting a few times, I have 82 palms in the ground. Around here, folks think I am nuts but from looking at his thread, I need to plant out those palms in the container ranch before I even hit normal here :D

I have about 52 in the ground and 50 more in pots waiting for planting when i found the right spot for those .

If you wait to do everything until you're sure it's right, you'll probably never do much of anything.

Buffy, we should convert to the number of palms per square yard/meter to determine the most obsessed. There could be a trophy...think a coconut sprayed with gold paint.....that could be awarded in Thailand.

Summers are great, 90f/32c in the day & 70f/21c at night with plentiful rain & sun

Winters are subtropical with occasional frosts and freezes. Tropical cyclones happen.

We have a few Royal palms in the warm microclimates but Coconuts freeze.

I just started growing my first Palms 1 week ago I only have 7 so far they're very small 4 Fotails and 3 Purple King, I also got 2 Travellers palm if you wanna sorta count that.

So, I finally steeled myself to make the count. I divided it into 3 groups:

1. Palms planted on our original homestead = 290

2. Palms planted on our new property = 67 and counting

3. Palms guerilla planted on the vacant property to the east = 52

So, as of today total palms in the ground = 409

160 and over 100 species, and I planted all of them, but there not all in my yard. 30 of those are in my neighbors yards.

I got four Trachies in the open ground here in Holland, two fortunei's, one wagnerianus and one princeps.

I have only 3 in-ground palms:

Chamaedorea cataractarum

Ravenea rivularis (smallest)

Rhapidophyllum hystrix (largest)

I've considered planting one of my Trachycarpus fortunei's in the ground, but both beds are full at the moment.

I currently have 136 species of palms in the garden, but if I count each one singly it would be well over 200 in the ground.

Lived in Cape Coral, Miami, Orlando and St. Petersburg Florida.
